More Artists for the Bash

Gem's Bio:
Jeremiah Navarro is a 28 year old graffiti writer out of El Paso, Texas. He has been painting murals steadily for about seven years. Painting walls has been his passion, but he has recently begin to work on canvas as a way to save his art. He is a co-founder of the annual Border Youth Silo Graffiti show that benefits the homeless shelter of El Paso.

In the words of Supher:

On my walks to school as a young boy, I found myself stopped and mesmerized at the writings written up and down my westside San Antonio neighborhood walls. Greatly influenced by the neighborhood artists, my eye gravitated to the small hip-hop community "writings" that moved me to adding my name, "Sulpher", to the same colorful stories, at the age of ten.

Soon after, I would meet the writers I admired and gain extensive artistic and stylistic training in letter structure, technique, marketing, and professionalism. Their mentorship and schooling inspired me to offer artistic and mentorship opportunities globally and locally. Such endeavors include being the Executive Producer and Founder of the internationally acclaimed Clogged Caps festival, joining hundereds of professional and inspiring graffiti artists, hip-hop musicians and dancers, community, and family together to collaborate with artists, companies and institutions throught the United States and Mexico. Besides my direct contributions to the Fine Arts, I have also influenced the arts by sitting on the Board of Directors at Blue Star Arts Complex.

With 20 years on my "wall" as a professional artist, muralist, teacher, producer and mentor, I congratulate my fellow writers and aspiring writers for continuing the art.

Artist Added - Daniel "Weah" Anguilu Bio

Daniel Anguilu started painting graffiti at an early age. Mostly using freight trains and walls as his canvases, his art is increasingly visible around his hometown of Houston, Texas, and highly concentrated in the East End. Anguilu has been invited and traveled to many cities in the US, Mexico, Peru, Spain, and Italy to paint graffiti and to participate in graffiti art exhibits. He has also visited Asia, Africa, and Central America to enrich his knowledge of pre-colonial art and the cultures in those regions.

Anguilu’s style is deeply inspired by his Mexican heritage and mostly manifests itself as large scale, aerosol murals. Anguilu strongly believes in freedom of expression and the need to use this expression to decorate public spaces. It is through this individual and group expression that we are able to expose each other to the many faces of our local and global community.

On the local scene, Anguilu has participated in group art shows at the Mexican Consulate of Houston, the Poissant Gallery, the Aerosol Warfare Gallery, and the Orange Show. He even worked on a project with Diverse Works called This Old House, and has completed pieces for Neiman Marcus and Converse as well. You can also see his work at the Houston Skate Park.

Currently, Anguilu is focusing on painting public spaces in the Houston area and working in collaboration with local business and home owners. Through his many conversations with Houstonians over the years, Anguilu has noticed that many people, whether involved in art or not, support his efforts to bring his art to our public spaces.

REI joins the Artist Roster

We are so excited to see the talent that is going to make up the Burner Bash lineup this year. Here is another one to add to the list:

Ramon Alvarez (REI) was born and grew up in north Spain, studied in south France and then the United States. He has traveled all over Europe, South Africa and the US, and nowadays lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, three children and three dogs.

As a kid he enjoyed drawing and experimenting with patterns and shapes, and grew up surrounded by fine art that his dad collected and painted. As a teenager he got into skateboarding, and then into graffiti, which along with music are the major influences in his art.

Playing with deep lines and contrasting colors, he’s capable of mixing pure realism with modern techniques such as graffiti and simple line illustration. His style is a result from all his surrealistic experiences in life traveling and living with other cultures, and the contrast between past and present.

He makes a living painting murals for clients such as Univision, Cartoon Network, Facebook, Google, Balcones Recycling, Bancvue, and many others. He also paints canvas and participates in many live shows taking his art to galleries, stores, coffee shops, private collections, etc.

Coler is Added to the Roster

Erik 'Coler' Del Rio was born on June 24th,1978 in Houston. He developed an interest in art at the tender age of 5, while drawing and painting in his elementary school classes. Coler's artistic endeavors soon began to focus more on graffiti after spying pieces in his skate magazines. He first tried his hand at graffiti when he was just twelve years old, and it was all over after that! After 18 years of painting, he is still considered to be one of the originators and innovators in Houston's graffiti scene. Coler is one of the most respected writers you'll find. His 10 years of tattooing have also helped hone his artistic skill. Graffiti and tattooing have worked harmoniously for Coler to help create a style that is untouched and unmistakably his own.
